“Even scarier to think that a drug syndicate can use the power of fake news to rattle a country, convince them to lose faith in their government officials.
The bad guys have a powerful new weapon. And we don’t know how to fight it.” – Madam Secretary Season 4 Episode 1
This is so true’ even more so today in Nigeria with the elections coming.
In March 2018 we concluded hosting the first South West Regional E-Commerce Summit & Expo in Ibadan, Nigeria themed The Future is Here & We Are Already Late” but before we did we had to participate in several press conferences.
As we know e-commerce is hinged on technology and it’s impact today and it’s impact on the news and journalism is still resonating all over the world with the impact of social media on our lives that we even get the news before the newspapers, radio or television.
This clearly shows me that not only has the mode of delivery changed with newspapers closing down all over the world and more so even in this country. The role of journalists I believe has also changed from just delivering the news but they must become protectors of the facts and in many cases even of truth!
But it’s not just journalism that would need to do this but each and everyone of us must rise up to the plate and deliver ourselves and our nation from the possible pitfalls and consequences of fake news!
We need to fight for truth even now more than ever!
