At our  First Sunday service  – 9th July, 2017 at our Real Success Seminar where Pastor Francis Madojemu taught on Habit 6 – “Synergize”. He started with the fact that this habit has so many dimensions and it is a bit difficult to capture every thing in one hour service, but advice everyone if you can get the book or go to You Tube, it’s fantastic there. He played an introductory video on Habit 6 which summaries and believes captured essence of the book before Pastor Francis started his own teaching on it.

The 3rd Alternative – the transition point, life is full of problems, problems at work, in the neighborhood, in marriage, with your parents, etc you are tired about it generally. We worried about crime, war, politicians, that’s why Dr. Covey wrote this book and he believes the book will transform your life. It’s the key to solving life difficult problems. ……….

Pastor Francis played a scenario for us in which two men were given money and they are to share it among themselves and at the end of it, they both must have something with them. They both agreed to it, and they did it fifty – fifty. Fifty – fifty is the ideal situation and that is what we call Compromise.

Synergy is not fifty fifty, nor is it sixty – forty (60 – 40), but Synergy is rather than the two of us struggle over the one thousand let us invest it, make another one thousand, share it and both keep getting income from it. Third alternative doesn’t mean there is only one option. It is the idea that if we both look beyond what is fair and we built something better. Synergy is a concept that comes out of a place where your thinking is beyond your immediate benefit and for Synergy you need to have an abundance mentality.

The reason why we struggle for sixty – forty, eighty – twenty, fifty – fifty, is because we have a scarcity mentality. So Pastor Francis showed us Synergy from another option from John Maxwell point of view. It’s a four minutes clip.

Does it makes sense? – the funny thing is we are people of faith but we are the first people to believe there is no answer.  The bible says to him that believeth, nothing shall be made impossible. I don’t know why we don’t think that the word impossible means there is an answer. The reason why we are struggling with not thinking the third alternative in this country generally is because we don’t have an abundance mentality. We always believe that we have limited resources  and therefore if I don’t grab my percent, from the scenario above the eyes of one of them will be on the amount to be shared, but abundance mentality will see the amount as an investment or deposit that can produce more.

It is the mentality that determines whether or not you look at third alternative.  It talks about Creativity and Flexibility are the key, in order words don’t stand your ground – your husband wants to go in this direction and you want to go in that direction, don’t stand your ground. How can we make it work for both sides? He says when creativity and flexibility come together they work well. An abundance thinker always believes there’s something out there for them, they are not scarcity minder and always believes there is an answer. I don’t know about you but that’s just how you have to break out of the limitation we are facing in this country right now. There is always an answer, there is always a solution, there is  no problem that doesn’t have a solution. You may not like the solution but there is a solution. And a Creative person – show me someone who is creative and I will show you someone who believes there is always an answer. I know I am preaching but that is the problem with preaching because you are going to nod your heads but whether you are absorbing these things and it will change the way you behave it’s a totally different phenomena. This appeals to me, because naturally I am creative and that is why I studied architecture. For me, it is not a struggle for me to think that there is always another way of doing something. One of the things I hate most in my life is having my room permanently arranged. When I was younger every three months or so, I purposely re-arrange my room because I always feel anything permanent can be very limiting.

So, you’ve got to believe that there’s always an answer and he said the reason why people are quitting their marriages, quit the businesses, quit whatever they are doing is simply because  they believe they have tried everything and it does not work and therefore they shut down. That’s what Covey called Flight or Fight. That’s the only two alternatives open to them. available – people either fight you or they run away from you. It’s almost as if no other option is available to them that’s why Maxwell said when a Creative person is steady,  why do they stay steady – they stay steady because they know they always have HOPE.

Why do people leave Nigeria, the way they do? To cross the desert to get to Libya?, to get to Europe? It’s because they have given up, they have shut down, they are doing the only alternative yet there are other ways.  The problem is that when you think one solution to your problem and that solution begins to die away, you will give up.

Everything is possible to him who believes. Then he said when you now add the word Flexibility to Creativity which means you now believes there is more than one answer which is why I said to them what are the other things we can do with the one thousand, because when you hear the word third alternative you are always thinking there are just three alternatives but there are could be 1, 2, 3, 4, ……. 10 or more alternatives to infinity depending on what you want to be. That is why I don’t want to teach the Third Alternative the regular way, that there’s only one way no there are many ways. In order words, whatever idea you get through Creativity which is really good, it doesn’t stop you to begin to believe that there’s more than one answer.  Since both agreed to build something bigger with the money, what we will build We don’t know but we have options A,B,C,D, etc but the Flexibility keeps you going.

A flexible person has creativity, eureka – I got the answer but it’s not your way or my way but there are many ways.  If you are telling people that there is only way to do something, you are killing there creativity and you are not teaching them flexibility.

The third alternative is the ability to look for the situations you are right now and look for the other ways it can be done. You don’t stop because there is always an answer. Your mentality determines the world you live in. Your call. We have a major scarcity mentality in this Nation.When someone is doing well in whatever they are doing, then learn from  them and improve on your own way. One answer I found in Creativity helps to find more in Flexibility.

Synergy says there’s always a third alternative for every problem we faced or are facing. Why are we waiting for someone else to solve our problems and not our selves but it means we have to think a third alternative. The best alternative is that we always have an  answer. God is happy, marvels, when you are creative. We are like God and we have His traits too.
