Jeremiah 6:16 (NKJV)

Thus says the Lord:

“Stand in the ways and see,

And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,

And walk in it;

Then you will find rest for your souls.

But they said, ‘We will not walk in it. ’

At a recent prayer meeting with the leaders, I felt it was time to look back and revisit the landmarks and signposts of our fathers in the faith especially in the area of singing songs, realizing that we really can’t go forward without the mile markers that brought us here. In my heart the refrain that echoed was “it will never lose its power” and I realized it was from the song by Andrae CROUCH – The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power.

VERSE 1

The blood that Jesus shed for me,

Way back on Calvary;

It’s that blood that gives me strength from day to day,

It will never lose its power.

CHORUS

It reaches to the highest mountain.

It flows to the lowest valley.

The blood that gives me strength from day to day,

It will never lose its power.

VERSE 2

It soothes my doubts and calms my fears,

And it dries all, all my tears.

The blood that gives me strength from day to day,

It will never lose its power.

CHORUS

It reaches to the highest mountain.

It flows to the lowest valley.

The blood that gives me strength from day to day,

It will never lose its power.

TAG

Well it will never lose its power.

It will never lose its power.

During the church service, after the Choir presented the song to the larger congregation, words failed me to express the joy, peace, cleansing and healing power of the Precious Blood of Jesus and very unlike me, I danced in the Spirit like I had never danced before.

There is something out there we are missing which we must bring back to this generation somehow. I really want to research this and explore it some more.

In a recent OneCall Ibadan Prayer Summit, Revd Ladi Thompson reminded us of how much we had lost ground in our battle with the devil, based on this scripture.

Revelation 12:11

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

He said the devil had been fighting wars for a long time and therefore would strategise to neutralize us in the things we would overcome him with.

This he said, has started with the Blood of the lamb, the cost of our salvation which we have begun to monetize in many ways and more recently with the purported redemption of the first born and more..

The word of our testimony has been corrupted by our deviation from the word of God where God’s word encourages us to love our enemies and bless those who despitefully use us and persecute us. We pray and proclaim death unto our enemies.

Loving our lives unto the death is invalidated by our silence over the spate of evil proliferating in our nation and country not just about Boko Haram and others but also the corruption and injustice both in the world and in Church!

We are scared for our lives and so we keep quiet! It is time to review these issues over and over again. You can download the full version of this message here:

I would be unfair if I leave our Rev Isaac Omolehin’s follow up message for this occasion. His challenge and exhortation moved us at the prayer summit. It is just the beginning and we have work to do.

The key scripture to me even after I had read it for many years but did not see the deep revelation in it was:

Nehemiah 1:1-4

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. It came to pass in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the citadel, that Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

Rev Isaac said succinctly, “I asked – and they said!”. (Notice the absence of concern or feelings reflected). Nehemiah’s response on the other hand, “I heard these words (overwhelmed) that I sat down, wept and mourned for many days!” This was not reflected in the attitude of the messengers.

When we read further in the book of Nehemiah, we see that this eventually affected Nehemiah’s countenance, his face, even in spite of his strategic and delicate job with the king. Are we like that in telling the story of our nation and where we are at this time?
